SUPPORT PEACE AND RECONCILIATION
The Cross Border Orchestra (CBOI) was established in 1995 as a fragile peace began to take root in Northern Ireland. Since then, CBOI has played an important role in building and nurturing vital cross border and cross community relations and is regarded internationally as a flagship peace initiative.
CBOI was formed as a direct result of the peace in Northern Ireland. Over the years, our core message of peace, unity and tolerance has remained central to our ethos, and the reach and impact of our programmes has grown exponentially. Over 35,000 children participate in our ‘Peace Proms’ programme each year, including 6,000 Catholic and Protestant children in Northern Ireland, while a further 350 young people participate in our orchestral and instrumental training programmes. Our performances unashamedly celebrate cultural diversity, unity and tolerance by incorporating Lambeg Drums, and Bodhrans; Highland pipes and Uilleann Pipes, Ulster Scots Dance and Irish Dance along with the full symphony orchestra.
CBOI & Peace Proms make the Arts accessible to communities across Ireland and Northern Ireland regardless of their socioeconomic, cultural, religious or political background. Our free programmes include:
