We are delighted to announce that Peace Proms 2020 will take place in Liverpool, Dublin, Galway Belfast and Waterford,

Dear Principals, Teachers and Choir Directors,

We are delighted to announce that Peace Proms 2020 will take place in Liverpool, Galway, Dublin, Belfast, Waterford. ‘Registrations of Interest’ will open on April 1st at www.peaceproms.com

PLEASE NOTE: 

  • Only schools which complete the ‘Registration of Interest’ will be eligible to participate in the programme
  • Completing the ‘Registration of Interest’ does not guarantee your school a place in the programme
  • The number of children registered is the Maximum you will be allowed in your choir
  • All schools must participate in ONE Choral Workshop held in November 2019 and One Concert (Schedule Below).

ROUND 1 offers will be made to successful schools on the Tuesday 3rd September.  All other schools will be placed on a reserve list and will be notified to that effect. In order to secure a place, ROUND 1 Schools must complete their application through the Peace Proms Database by 27th September.

ROUND 2 offers will be made by 7th October.

PLEASE NOTE: Peace Proms is recommended for:

  • Republic of Ireland Schools – 3rd Class & upwards
  • Northern Ireland Schools – P4 & upwards
  • UK Schools – Key Stage 2 choirs & upwards

Peace Proms is a Free resource and choral education project for Primary Schools. The musical programme is tailor made to ensure it is fun and engaging for children, fulfils important educational requirements, is very rewarding to teach, and the end performance is an inspirational and thrilling experience for choirs, teachers, parents and audiences alike! Peace Proms engages children and young people in music and enriches their lives through exceptional musical experiences and performances. Peace Proms celebrates culture and diversity and promotes peace, unity and tolerance through music.

Peace Proms is for everyone. Whether your choir is established or just starting out, Peace Proms gives your choir the once in a lifetime opportunity to:

  • Sing with a choir of up to 3,000 children
  • Perform with a full symphony youth orchestra
  • Work with one of the UK’s leading professional conductors – Greg Beardsell
  • Perform at top venues e.g. the Echo Arena Liverpool, the RDS Dublin, Sports Arena Waterford, the SSE Arena Belfast and UL Sports Arena Limerick.
  • Develop vocal technique, presentation and performance
  • Experience a variety of musical styles and genres

Peace Proms Involves:

  • IN SCHOOL LEARNING: With their teachers, children learn up to 8 songs or medleys in different genres. Schools are provided with choir packs, and a rehearsal CD
  • REGIONAL WORKSHOPS: Each school participates in ONE regional workshop which will take place in November during school hours and is given by renowned conductor Greg Beardsell.
  • PEACE PROMS CONCERT: All schools perform with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and a host of top soloists in ONE concert which will take place in Spring 2020

MUSIC Workbooks and Tracks will be released digitally on the database to each school when they have completed their application in full.

COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION: Schools who do not fully complete the application may lose their place in Peace Proms to a school on the reserve list.  A Complete application includes:

  1. Uploading or updating School Details:
    • School crest where applicable
    • Choir photograph
    • School information panel.

If you have previously taken part in Peace Proms your crest and information panel will already be there. All you need to do is check it and add your photo.

  1. Adding Choir Members’ details to the Choir Members Page:
    • Choir members’ Name & Age
    • Parent/Guardian contact details
    • Uploading an individual jpeg photograph of each parental consent form. (Please note, photos batches of forms cannot be accepted this year)
  1. Special Requirements:
    • Information about mobility/visual or any other needs that your students might have should be included, so that we can take them into consideration for workshops and concerts.
    • Please note that we do not separate/segregate those with special needs from their school peers.

  • 1 workshop and 1 concert. Details of your workshop and concert will be forwarded to you as soon as they are available.

COSTS

  • There is no charge for participating in the project.
  • Schools are expected to cover the cost of buses to and from the workshop and concert.

TICKETING

Tickets normally go on sale early November

 WORKSHOP

  • The workshop is given by Conductor Greg Beardsell.
  • The Workshop lasts for 1hr and 30mins.
  • Try your best to have the music and words learned OFF BY HEART for the workshop. The children will benefit much more from the programme if they know all the songs from memory from early in the academic year.
  • The workshop must start at the appointed time. Choirs who anticipate lengthy travel times will need to factor in comfort breaks and allow extra time.
  • Teachers sit with their group for the workshop, and supervise them at all times. The recommended supervision ratio is 1 teacher to 15 students.
  • Students are not permitted to use mobile phones during the rehearsals or the concert.
  • No recording is permitted (audio or visual) of any part of the rehearsal or performance.
  • Some songs may require dance moves / actions. These will be sent to you via email link and are taught during the workshop.
  • Choir members should wear their school uniform to the workshop.
  • TOILET: PLEASE TRY TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN DO NOT GO OUT TO THE TOILET DURING THE REHEARSAL, AS IT IS VERY DISRUPTIVE FOR OTHERS.

 

CHOIR UNIFORM

  • Choir members must wear a plain white t-shirt/shirt/blouse (no logos) and dark bottoms 
(uniform bottoms are fine – skirt and tights or trousers)
  • On the day of the concert, choirs should arrive dressed in their choir uniform. Coats and lunches can be stored under the children’s seats or you may wish to collect their coats in a bin liner (clearly labelled) and store out of sight during the performance.

THE CONCERT

  • Choirs will be asked to go directly to their performance positions on arrival.
  • Choirs should be in their performance positions 2 hours before the performance begins.
  • The pre-concert rehearsal must start at the appointed time. Any choir which arrives late will only be allowed to join the rehearsal during breaks between songs.
  • Choirs who anticipate lengthy travel times will need to factor in comfort breaks and allow extra time.
  • Choirs should arrive at concert hall dressed in their choir uniform as there are no changing facilities.
  • Choirs have a 1 hour rehearsal and 40 minute break before going on stage.
  • Choirs should bring a snack to have at the break. The snack should be in a small plastic or paper bag. Do not bring Hold-alls/Hand Bags/Carrier Bags/Ruck Sacks, etc.
  • Choirs should be in their performance positions 20 mins before the concert begins.
  • Once the concert begins, the choirs remain on stage at all times. Choirs may not leave the stage at the interval except where it is necessary.
  • Teachers sit with their group for concerts, and supervise them at all times. The recommended supervision ratio is 1 teacher to 15 students.
  • Students are not permitted to use mobile phones during the rehearsals or the concert.
  • No recording is permitted (audio or visual) of any part of the rehearsal or performance.
  • TOILET: PLEASE ENSURE THAT CHILDREN DO NOT GO OUT TO THE TOILET DURING THE CONCERT.

TEACHERS

  • Teachers should dress in semi-formal / cocktail black.
