Outstanding Arts Education Initiative
Peace Proms provides schools with an incredible opportunity to perform with a full symphony orchestra made up of some of Ireland’s most talented young musicians. Choirs also work alongside some of Ireland’s most outstanding young soloists. This year’s line up of soloists includes the winners of The Soloist 2015 soprano, Sarah Richardson; pianist Daniel Kearney and many more.
What’s involved for Schools
Peace Proms involves:
- In-school learning
- A regional workshop which all participating schools attend
- A final concert.
With their teachers, children learn up to 8 songs or medleys in different genres. All schools are provided with choir packs and a rehearsal CD. The themes for Peace Proms 2016 are Friendship, Bravery, the Power of the Dream, Peace and Harmony.
All schools then participate in ONE of our regional workshops which will take place on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd February in Queen’s University, Belfast. The workshops are a wonderful opportunity for the children and teachers to meet the conductor and work through the songs in preparation for the concert. All schools perform with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on Sunday 28th February at 3pm.
This year’s songs will include
- Touch the Sky from Brave
- Medley from Matilda the musical
- Medley from the Muppets
- Friendship Medley (Count on Me, Bruno Mars; Gift of a Friend, Demi Lovato; We’re all in this Together, High School Musical; we Go Together, Grease)
- The Power of the Dream
- Imagine
- World in Union
