Ireland’s renowned Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) is set to captivate audiences across the nation with a sensational series of seventeen Peace Proms concerts commencing at the University of Limerick on January 27th and continuing to Dublin, Belfast and Waterford. Established in 1995, the CBOI has been at the forefront of music education while promoting peace, unity, and tolerance on the island of Ireland. Peace Proms 2024 will be a testament to their remarkable work and achievements.
These inspirational concerts will feature 35,000 children from every corner of Ireland and Northern Ireland, collectively forming the Children’s Peace Choirs who will perform alongside the 130-member internationally acclaimed Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. Under the direction of the distinguished conductor Maestro Greg Beardsell and led by Dundalk’s own violinist Richie Dunne, this event promises to be an awe-inspiring celebration of youth, music, and talent on an epic scale.
Peace Proms concerts are electrifying and highly recommended for all family members, regardless of age. Audiences can anticipate an exceptional showcase of some of the most talented young musicians from our island, accompanied by a diverse line-up of performers including Conductor Greg Beardsell, all-Ireland champion Uilleann Piper Conal Duffy, award-winning vocalist and songwriter Lauren Murphy, and world champion Highland Piper Grahame Harris. The line-up will also feature the newly formed ‘Northern Youth Concordia Pipes and Drums’ – an inspirational new cross-community group assembled by CBOI and made up of 25 young pipers and drummers from pipe bands across Northern Ireland. Ulster Scots dancers from the Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dance in Belfast will also feature along with Irish dancers from Dance Hall Academy, Swords; the Magill School of Irish Dance, Waterford; and the Ryan School of Irish Dance in Limerick.
Having graced iconic venues worldwide, such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, Chicago Symphony Hall, the Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai, and more, the CBOI continues to garner international acclaim. In 2023, the orchestra marked the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement with a historic sell-out performance on arguably the world’s greatest stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Throughout its illustrious history, the CBOI has had the honour of performing for dignitaries, including President Michael D. Higgins, former Presidents of Ireland, King Charles III, President Obama, President Biden, and the late Queen Elizabeth II. The orchestra’s impactful performances at national and international events have consistently conveyed messages of peace, reconciliation, healing, and hope, earning them standing ovations and global recognition.
The CBOI extends its heartfelt gratitude to its sponsors, including the Goodman Foundation, the Arts Council of Ireland, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, the Department of Education and Skills, MediLink Ambulance Service, as well as all volunteers and supporters. Their generosity enables the CBOI to spread the joy of music and peace to children, families, schools, and communities globally.
